Recap: The Political Landscape

This weekend has brought us some interesting turnabouts in our political scene. Yes, DJT was at his Twitter wars and making fights with Sen. Cruz once more, but now the eyes were all on the Democrats as they proceed to their Democratic National Convention starting tomorrow.

Revelation 1: Clinton-Kaine 2016

and:

Revelation 2: DNC Chair pledges to step down

The veepstakes are finally over! Hillary Clinton has picked Sen. Tim Kaine to be the Dem Nominee for VPOTUS. I nearly beamed while to reading about Sen. Kaine’s resume online. He was born in Minnesota, grew up in Kansas (and did lots of hard labor to support his parents), went to Harvard Law, and took time off from law school to go to Honduras as a missionary, where he learned to speak fluent Español. He then became a nonpartisan Virginia councilman, mayor of Richmond, Lieutenant Governor of VA, Governor of VA, and Senator of VA as well (wow, that was a lot).

Yet, Kaine wasn’t the progressive bastion many were hoping for. He openly supported bank deregulation and the TPP, and has had personally conservative views on abortion and gay marriage (though, in the Senate he is rated 100% in support for abortion issues by Planned Parenthood)

It appears as though Hillary didn’t choose Kaine to gain the support of a certain sect or group, but because she felt he would be the best person she could work with.

A little while ago, Russian hackers hacked into the Democratic National Committee’s servers and took loads of information, including plans to counter Donald Trump. But recently, WikiLeaks sent out thousands of emails between DNC members.

One email from May of this year shows the CFO of the DNC asking if a story can be planted on Bernie Sanders’ Jewish faith in an attempt to lower his level of support in Kentucky and West Virginia, southern states. Personally, this is atrocious. “I’m with her”, but I am not with this level of disrespect for Sen. Sanders. Also, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Chair of the DNC, openly showed her distaste for Hillary’s opponent an revealed her partiality.

Yesterday, the DNC announced that DWS would not be speaking or doing the gavel procedures at the Democratic National Convention tomorrow. However, today, it was announced that she would be effectively resigning from the committee after the convention ends on Thursday. This is huge news, and helps to keep the party together. Still, we will see the swathes of Bernie supporters tomorrow in Philly openly expressing their views on this whole matter.

Hope you enjoyed this commentary and stick around tomorrow for our commentary on the Democratic National Convention!
